Connect 5 Outreach February 16, 2021

Good evening,

This is Principal Quigg reaching out with an important message:

The return to athletics will begin on March 15th with the start of the spring season.  Coaches and athletes will have the option for in-person out of season conditioning starting March 1st.  Program offerings will be school and team-specific, depending on the selection of coaches and the interest of student-athletes.  All students are eligible to participate in athletics regardless of their mode of school instruction (virtual or in-person).

The following are participation requirements with a due date of March 15th:

  • Students must be registered in Form Releaf by March 15th.
  • Students must meet eligibility standards (No E’s) based on second quarter grades.  Students who are ineligible are encouraged to activate the appeals process, by contacting the school or Mr. Lindecamp.
  • Students must submit a completed physical dated after June 7, 2020 prior to participation.  The physical form can be located on Form Releaf.
  • Students must submit a signed COVID-19 Awareness Parent/Student-Athlete Participation Acknowledgement form.  https://hcps.org/departments/curriculum/Athletics.aspx

The athletics program will look different this season as mitigation strategies and rule modifications will be in place to provide the best and safest experience for student-athletes, coaches, and stakeholders. More information regarding safety guidelines and the status of game schedules will be provided by the end of February.  We look forward to welcoming our student-athletes and coaches back on campuses for the spring season.

One additional announcement: As we begin our planning for next year, a welcome video, explaining the course selection process and featuring our special program areas will premiere tomorrow Wednesday, February 17th on the Aberdeen High School YouTube Channel. Please take this opportunity to watch the video with your student. Important information about the courses offered at Aberdeen High School will be highlighted. Watching this video will help you and your student consider course options for next year’s class schedule. Information about Career & Technology programs, taking an AP course, and early college access is also shared.

School counselors will join students in math classrooms on Monday and Tuesday February 22nd and 23rd to review the registration process and answer questions. Counselors will also hold a Question and Answer session on Flex Friday February 26th.  Plan to join your students during their assigned session using the links on the School Counseling It’s Learning page. This is an additional opportunity to ask questions about courses and seek advice so each student will have a class schedule tailored to his or her individual needs and interests.

On March 1st and 2nd, all students will make course selections to create their class schedule for next year.

Thank you and have a wonderful evening,

Michael Quigg
